Leaves are falling. Leaves are falling to the ground without sound. Days are getting shorter. Nights are growing longer. Fall is here. Fall is here.
The program that is used in P.S.160 is "Go Math". It incorporates students using manipulatives, models, quick pictures and symbols as I, the teacher, introduces each lesson. Students will be expected to participate to prepare themselves from concept to problem solving. We will use prior knowledge to begin to engage their interest. Then we will teach and talk to reinforce, record, solve and explain the lesson. In closing, they will practice what they have learned throughout the lesson.
ReadyGEN is an integrated and well-balanced approach to reading and writing instruction for Grades K-6 classrooms. Authentic texts with modeling and teacher-directed activities drive learning and motivate readers. Students read authentic literary and informational texts. Instruction focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening in response to authentic texts. Modeling, scaffolding, and close reading strategies support readers with complex text. Integrated intervention is included for skills improvement or intensive remedial instruction.
Students need to read 30 minutes every night, including the weekend. In addition on the weekend they must write a reading response 3-5 sentences long. They will be receiving Math homework on the lesson taught in class. Handwriting assignment will consist of 2 pages every night. In word study, 5 words a week are stapled into their notebook and they are expected to follow the directions every night. All homework must be signed by a parent/guardian.
