• Welcome to Orton-Gillingham!
The Orton Gillingham methodology is an alphabetic phonetic approach to teaching the basic elements of the language- the sounds and the letters which represent them-utilizing multisensory presentations whereby the child simultaneously "sees the letter", "hears its sound", and "feels the letter/sound association" via tracing, writing, or the movements of their mouth, lips, and tongue.  Proceeding from the simple to the complex, children are taught to recognize the letter and its sound(s), blend the sounds into words and later to divide words into syllables in the visual component. All learning is cumulative and there is necessity for repetition to attain mastery or automaticity.
